Partner correspondent
Chile
Partner customs agent in San Antonio, Valparaíso and Iquique, with document control on our side.
Chile has the densest network of trade agreements in the region, and that is both the opportunity and the trap: the preferential tariff depends on a certificate of origin that satisfies the specific rule of the agreement invoked. Weak origin evidence does not surface at inspection; it surfaces at the later audit.
What decides the operation here
- Aforo can be documentary or physical; either way what is examined is whether the DIN matches its supporting records.
- The Iquique free zone (ZOFRI) completely changes the cost structure of a re-export operation into the region.
- With an agreement in force, the entire tariff saving is lost if the certificate of origin fails the product-specific rule of origin.
- Law 21.719 raised data protection requirements substantially over the previous regime.
Selectivity in Chile
3 possible outcomes when the declaration is filed
Every country names its channels its own way, but the logic is the same: the system decides how much gets reviewed, and that drives the days in storage. These are the ones in Chile.
No aforo
The declaration proceeds without review.
Physical aforo
Material examination of the goods.
