Tariff classification

We determine the correct code for your product and defend the position technically before customs.

The tariff code decides how much you pay, what permits you need and which trade agreements you can use. It is the single highest-impact economic decision in the whole operation, and the most audited.

  • Determining the code under the nomenclature in force in that country
  • Applying the General Rules of Interpretation and legal notes
  • Written technical opinion with regulatory grounding
  • Filing an advance classification ruling with customs
  • Review of historical classifications and voluntary correction
  • Bulk classification of product portfolios
Step by step

How we run the service

  1. Technical data

We gather composition, use, manufacturing process and commercial presentation.

  2. Regulatory analysis

We apply the rules of interpretation and the section and chapter notes.

  3. Reasoned opinion

We deliver the classification with the reasoning that supports it, in writing.

  4. Formal ruling

Where warranted, we file for a binding classification ruling.

Frequent questions

What clients ask most

What is an advance ruling?

A binding statement from customs on how your product is classified. It gives legal certainty before you import and protects you from later reassessment.

Does one classification work in all six countries?

The first six digits match, because all six follow the Harmonized System. Beyond that they diverge: Mercosur uses the NCM, Colombia the Andean nomenclature and Mexico the TIGIE. We work in all three.
