Colombia

Our home base. Licensed customs agency with our own staff inside the customs zone at the three main cargo gateways.

Colombia funnels its foreign trade through few points and its authority audits years back. A tariff code picked casually costs nothing on release day: it costs when the assessment notice lands three years later and the position has to be defended under the rules in force at the time.

What decides the operation here

  • Release is same-day when the declaration is not flagged; with physical inspection, one to three working days depending on the warehouse.
  • Clearances from Invima, ICA or the Ministry of Trade are filed through the VUCE window and must be in hand before the declaration, not after.
  • Plan Vallejo and the free trade zones are the two instruments that most often go unused simply because the procedure is not known.
  • The statute of limitations on a declaration sets the real window during which your file has to stay defensible.
Selectivity in Colombia

3 possible outcomes when the declaration is filed

Every country names its channels its own way, but the logic is the same: the system decides how much gets reviewed, and that drives the days in storage. These are the ones in Colombia.

Green channel

Automatic release, no review.

Yellow channel

Document review of the declaration and its supporting papers.

Red channel

Physical inspection of the goods.
